MOSCOW is the city to be visited. It is one of the oldest and most mesmerising cities in the world. It has a long and dramatic history. The city has been totally destroyed and rebuilt anew many times throughout the centuries. Each time Moscow was resurrected from the ruins, it got additional and detailed gorgeous. The most talented and renowned architects were invited from around the world to restore Moscow. So, Moscow places of interest are really worth a visit. Today Moscow is the city where the past and the present exist side by side in reciprocal tolerance and respect. Close to ancient churches and cathedrals, there tower over modern business centres and skyscrapers. But, originally, Moscow is the centre of the Russian history. Red Square is the most renowned city square in Moscow and, perhaps, one of the most renowned in the world. It separates the Kremlin, the former royal fortress and now the official residence of the President of Russia, from a historic trading area called Kitai-gorod. Since major streets of Moscow radiate from here in all directions, Red Square is normally considered the central square of Moscow and of the Russian Federation. Resurrection Gate is known as the only existing gate of the Kitai-gorod in Moscow. It connects the north-western end of Red Square with Manege Square and gives its name to Voskresenskaya Square (differently called Resurrection Square) placed nearby. In front of the chapel there is a bronze plaque marking kilometre zero of the Russian highway system. Moscow parks are also popular among citizens and travellers. Alexander Garden was one of Moscow's first public parks. It spans along the western Kremlin wall in front of the Moscow Manege. The State Historical Museum of Russia is placed between Red Square and Manege Square. Its displays vary from relics of the prehistoric people that live on the territory of present-day Russia to priceless masterpieces of art acquired by the Romanov dynasty. The number of works of art in the museum's collection numbers in millions. The Cathedral of Basil the Blessed is a Russian Orthodox cathedral erected in Red Square. It was built to commemorate the capture of Kazan and Astrakhan, and nowadays marks the geometric heart of Moscow and the hub of its development.
